History of the baskets
The flower baskets lining Winterset’s Downtown Historic Courthouse District have long been a point of pride for the community, and a breathtaking spectacle for locals and visitors alike. Nearly 15 years ago, a group of community members worked together to gather private donations for the baskets and ensure they thrived throughout the summer months. Now, the Friends of Winterset Parks and Recreation has the opportunity to continue this longstanding tradition and is excited to help restore the baskets to their original glory.
The Project
For Spring 2026, Friends has plans to increase the size and number of baskets around the square, as well as incorporate internal irrigation into each basket so they require less frequent watering. We are currently working with a local greenhouse to improve these processes, and can’t wait to see the results next year!
